Even when people are thinking of religious purpose, ie: serving God, I think they are still thinking of service to their fellow humans. Being a "good" person, is being a moral person who lives in service.

This is like Bart telling Santa's Little Helper to go sniff that other dog's butt when trying to show how well trained the dog is. Religion tells us what we already are programmed to do, and calls it purpose.
