There probably is a method. I'll repost here an answer from someone else who asked the same thing:
It's not been a magic fix, but seems to come from somatic therapy and learning to hang with and tolerate my feelings. As I get to know all the chatter going on in me at any moment, I am less affected and distracted by it. Something like that. At the heart for me is a kind of low grade panic where I'm desperately trying to manage what I say and do in order to establish or maintain connection. Like "If I draw a great cartoon, people will like me." The more I realize what's actually going on in me, the more free I am.
