I speculate a fair amount about the role of Asperger’s (sorry, can’t give up the term) in human evolution. In a time when we lived in the caves, society was simpler with many less people, and autism wouldn’t have been as difficult to manage and could easily have lead to greater fitness for the individuals who could think and contribute outside the box. Obviously, it’s critical for the group but I’m told evolution doesn’t work that way.
This suggests to me that it truly is adaptive and thus truly divergent in an evolutionary way.
Of course, I can spin a lot of things my liking.
