I suspect that there are selective pressures that operate depending upon how we present. I’ve noticed aspects of this. There is even a line in a Spin Doctors tune that “sometimes they treat you worse when you say please.”

But I want to attract people who are comfortable with kindness and connection. And I’m not sure Machiavelli is my best compass.
