This occurred to me in answer to a prayer about it years ago. It’s the only explanation that could possibly make sense, but it’s a hard sell for me. With all the suffering, this would mean Earth is darn close to a penal colony. Could be, but I find it a stretch.

Also, if this is true, wherever they committed these offenses must be a horrible place. If it’s the Earth, one wonders if we’re gaining any ground toward goodness, or slipping further from it.
