Yeah, it’s supposed to be humorous, though I have wondered exactly these things about the reason we are here, and I have longed for a better, more evolved planet next time around. As long as I am dreaming up a reincarnation scenario on a different planet, I figure to throw in a mild climate and seaside living because why not.
That said, I wholeheartedly agree with what seems to be your basic premise. Wealth isn’t going to produce additional happiness, though for many who struggle for rent and medical care, it would undoubtedly bring great relief, and possibly even help them release their previously suppressed joy and ease.
I am puzzled by the idea that you can live out the next 20 or 30 years on 10 grand. You must be living a very modest life. I also enjoy the lottery thought experiment. When we wouldn’t change much, we are living a graced life. It’s kind of the goal to answer this question this way.
